What You’ll Do:As the selected Front End Developer, you’ll be responsible for developing and implementing highly responsive user interface components for web and mobile applications using various front-end development tools.


Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • UI Development: Design and implement responsive, intuitive, and accessible user interfaces for web applications used by local government employees and the public. Create seamless, user-centered designs that support easy navigation and enhance the user experience.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with UX/UI designers, back-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements, develop technical specifications, and deliver high-quality web applications.
  • Component Development: Develop reusable, modular, and efficient front-end components and libraries to ensure consistency across the application. Focus on clean, maintainable code that is easy to extend.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure that web applications are optimized for speed and performance, especially considering the range of devices and browsers that local government users may use. Monitor performance and apply optimizations such as lazy loading, caching, and reducing network requests.
  • Cross-Browser Compatibility: Ensure the application works across a variety of browsers and devices, paying particular attention to ensuring accessibility and usability for all users, including those with disabilities.
  • Security Best Practices: Implement front-end security best practices, such as proper authentication, authorization, and secure data handling, to ensure compliance with government regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FISMA, and others).
  • API Integration: Collaborate with back-end developers to integrate front-end interfaces with RESTful APIs and other services. Ensure smooth and effective data handling between the client and server.
  • Testing and Debugging: Write unit and integration tests for front-end components using modern testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Cypress). Troubleshoot, debug, and fix any front-end issues that arise during development, testing, or after deployment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest front-end technologies, trends, and best practices. Propose improvements to the UI/UX design and coding standards to continually enhance the user experience.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation for front-end code, UI guidelines, and other processes to ensure proper knowledge sharing among team members and stakeholders.

What You’ll Need:
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Front-End Developer, with hands-on experience in developing web applications, particularly for regulated industries or government projects.
  • Core Skills: Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), React, and React Native.
  • Responsive Design: Experience creating responsive web applications that work well across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices using frameworks like Bootstrap, Foundation, or custom CSS media queries.
  • Version Control: Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git, for managing codebase changes and collaboration within a development team.
  • Cross-Browser Compatibility: Experience ensuring applications work across multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) and devices, including older versions, to meet government accessibility requirements.
  • API Integration: Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and working with asynchronous data fetching methods like AJAX or Fetch API.
  • Web Accessibility: Understanding of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and experience building applications that are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
  • Security Awareness: Familiarity with front-end security best practices, such as preventing Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) and Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), and ensuring data privacy.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to debug issues, enhance functionality, and ensure that the user interface works smoothly across various environments.
  • Testing: Familiarity with front-end testing frameworks like Jest, Mocha, Cypress, or Karma to ensure robust, testable code.
  • Agile Experience: Experience working in Agile development environments, collaborating with designers, back-end developers, and stakeholders to meet project deadlines.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Government Experience: Experience working on local or federal government projects, understanding regulatory requirements and the unique challenges of developing government-facing applications.
  • State-of-the-Art Front-End Tools: Familiarity with modern front-end tools like Webpack, Babel, ESLint, or Prettier to enhance the development process.
  • UX/UI Collaboration: Experience working closely with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes, mockups, and user flows into fully functional web interfaces.
  • Cloud Platforms: Knowledge of deploying applications to cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and using cloud-based services to improve scalability and performance.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience working with continuous integration and deployment pipelines to automate testing, building, and deployment of front-end applications.
