What You’ll Do:
Navitas is seeking an experienced API Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for enterprise application integration, API development, and healthcare interoperability initiatives. This role will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for designing, developing, and governing complex API and integration solutions across enterprise environments.
The API Technical Lead will provide hands-on technical expertise across the software development lifecycle, with a strong focus on FHIR, HL7, RESTful APIs, enterprise integration, cloud technologies, API security, and modern application architecture. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, developers, technical stakeholders, and business teams to deliver scalable, secure, reusable, and high-performing integration solutions.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:- Serve as a senior technical lead for enterprise API development, application integration, and interoperability initiatives.
- Design, develop, and implement complex enterprise applications, APIs, interfaces, and integration solutions.
- Lead the design and implementation of FHIR-based APIs and healthcare interoperability solutions supporting the secure exchange of clinical and claims data.
- Apply FHIR, HL7, and related healthcare interoperability standards to develop scalable and reusable integration solutions.
- Design RESTful and SOAP-based web services and APIs supporting enterprise application integration.
- Develop API and integration architectures utilizing cloud platforms, including AWS, and enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft.
- Establish and maintain enterprise integration architecture guidelines, standards, design patterns, and development best practices.
- Apply Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), API-led connectivity, microservices, and other modern integration patterns where appropriate.
- Collaborate with development teams to define and implement mappings between source and target data formats, including databases, flat files, X12, JSON, XML, HL7v2, FHIR, and other structured data formats.
- Design reusable integration components, frameworks, services, APIs, and development patterns to support enterprise-wide reuse.
- Provide technical leadership for API and web-service integration with an emphasis on scalability, performance, security, reliability, and maintainability.
- Define and implement API security practices, including authentication, authorization, encryption, secure data exchange, and access controls.
- Analyze complex integration and application issues, provide root-cause analysis, and support resolution of high-impact technical problems.
- Participate in architecture and technical governance activities, including reviewing proposed integration solutions, API changes, and architectural decisions.
- Partner with enterprise and solution architects to ensure integration solutions align with established technology strategies and enterprise architecture.
- Research emerging technologies, interoperability standards, integration platforms, and development practices and assess their potential enterprise applications.
- Participate in the development and automation of CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Git and Jenkins.
- Apply software engineering best practices throughout requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Establish and promote development standards, coding practices, integration patterns, and reusable architecture.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to developers and other engineering team members.
- Translate complex technical and integration concepts into clear recommendations for technical and business stakeholders.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, technical discussions, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
- Serve as a technical consultant, advocate, mentor, and change agent to promote continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of IT and business/industry experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience serving as a technical expert or technical lead within an IT organization.
- At least two (2) years of hands-on experience applying FHIR standards, including FHIR resources, profiles, and implementation guides.
- At least two (2) years of experience with healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 and CCDA.
- Demonstrated experience with healthcare systems, healthcare data, and interoperability.
- Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and web services.
- Experience with SOAP-based web services and enterprise integration technologies.
- Experience with FHIR and HL7v2 healthcare data exchanges.
- Experience with object-oriented programming, software design, coding, testing, and debugging.
- Experience with CI/CD practices and version control, including Git.
- Experience with cloud-based application integration, including AWS.
- Experience with enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft.
- Familiarity with JMS/EMS and related messaging technologies.
- Understanding of networking concepts and API security best practices.
- Experience with automation and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise-wide API and integration architectures.
- Experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, CloudHub, and API Manager.
- Experience with AWS integration services and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience developing FHIR implementation guides, profiles, extensions, terminology, or validation frameworks.
- Experience with healthcare claims and clinical data.
- Experience with X12, including healthcare transaction standards.
- Experience with CCDA/C-CDA and clinical data exchange.
- Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and enterprise messaging.
- Experience with API lifecycle management and enterprise API governance.
- Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, and other modern API security standards.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization technologies.
- Experience with automated testing and API testing frameworks.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum and structured SDLC environments.
- Experience participating in enterprise architecture or technology governance boards.

Salary: $65,000 - $85,000
The pay range provided is a good-faith estimate and represents the range the company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. Individual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and business needs.
