What You’ll Do:
The Senior Ontology Expert will lead the design, development, and implementation of ontologies to support advanced semantic data modeling, knowledge representation, and data integration initiatives. This role requires deep expertise in semantic technologies, W3C standards, and ontology engineering frameworks, with the ability to translate complex domain requirements into scalable, interoperable ontology solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong technical proficiency with analytical rigor and collaborative problem‑solving skills.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, and maintain ontologies aligned with project requirements and industry standards.
- Write advanced SPARQL queries to support semantic data retrieval, validation, and analytics.
- Apply expert‑level knowledge of the W3C Web Ontology Language (OWL) to build and refine ontology structures.
- Utilize Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) and Common Core Ontologies (CCO) to ensure semantic consistency and interoperability.
- Develop ontology‑driven applications using Java and Python.
- Create and maintain automation scripts using Bash to support ontology workflows and data processing tasks.
- Integrate geospatial and semantic data using ESRI tools, including ArcGIS.
- Apply DevSecOps principles to ontology development pipelines, including version control (Git) and CI/CD processes.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align ontology models with system architecture, data standards, and mission requirements.
- Conduct semantic data modeling, ontology validation, and quality assurance activities.
- Master’s degree or higher (e.g., Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Science, GIS, Data Science, Business Analytics, Cognitive Science, or a closely related field; or a minimum of 11+ years of experience in ontology development and semantic technologies.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Ontology design and engineering
- Semantic data modeling
- SPARQL query development
- Proficiency with W3C semantic standards, including:
- RDF
- OWL
- SHACL
- Strong understanding of BFO and CCO frameworks.
- Hands‑on experience with Java and Python for ontology‑driven application development.
- Experience with Bash scripting for automation.
- Familiarity with ESRI geospatial tools, including ArcGIS.
- Background in DevSecOps, version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
